Let’s be honest. These “about me” pages are awkward. But since I am by nature a nosy person, I always read them when I go to a blog for the first time. I think it is important to know a little about the person since lifestyle blogs seem so personal. So, here goes.

Professionally, I’ve spent the majority of my adult life focused on communication of one sort or another. I’ve been a college English teacher, a photographer, a writer, a communication strategist, and a college director.
Personally, though (and this is what really matters), I am a mom to the two best kids ever. Somehow, and in spite of me, they’ve turned into amazing adults and are better than me in every way (well, maybe not guilt-tripping; that comes with years of practice, and I learned at the feet of the master with my mom). I’ve also been married for more than 30 years. We work because we’re both goofy, passionate, and, thankfully, forgiving. We have too many dogs and yet not nearly enough. They bring great joy, and I hope we do the same for them. I was raised in the south, and it shows in (perhaps too) many ways.
I started this blog because, after I turned 50, I realized that I’d spent most of my life using my voice for other people instead of for me. As women, it seems that we too often do that. We are so busy supporting the people around us, that we lose our voice or our direction or our focus. And, honestly, for me that has been fine. I have no complaints or regrets (except, perhaps, never moving to a Caribbean island to sell fruity rum drinks on the beach, but that’s another story). It’s just that I feel like it’s time to use my voice to connect with other people who might be taking a similar journey.
So here we are. In this space, you might find some musings about life (I’m an overthinker), you definitely will see me laughing at myself (I am a dork in so many ways), and I hope you will have a chance to reflect on yourself and your own journey. When I write, I always am super cognizant of the fact that I am writing for you. The stories and thoughts might be grounded in my experience, but, ultimately, you’re here because you think something might resonate with you. And that is my goal: to write something for you that makes a difference for you–even if it is just for a minute.
Welcome and thanks.
